Charting Companion must now be launched from Family Tree Maker. In the FTM menu, click on "Tools ➔ Plugins ➔ Export ➔ Charting Companion".
If Charting Companion fails to launch, please go through the following checklist.
- Did you install a new version of Family Tree Maker recently? If so, you must re-install Charting Companion, because CC creates a file in the FTM directory when CC is installed:
C:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2019\Plugins\CCplugin8.xml - Is there a file opened in FTM? The plugins will be disabled if no file is open.
- Was FTM open or running when you installed Charting Companion? Exit and re-start FTM.
- Is the plugin activated? Click on "Tools ➔ Manage Plugins", make sure there is a check mark next to CC.
- There was a bug in earlier versions of FTM Beta that caused it to be installed in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Software MacKiev\Family Tree Maker 2017
However, the Registry said that FTM was in:C:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2017
The solution is to copy this file:C:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2017\Plugins\CCplugin.xml
to this directory:C:\Program Files\Software MacKiev\Family Tree Maker 2017\Plugins
Alternatively, re-install FTM to:C:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2017
and re-install CC. - As a last resort, look for this file:
C:\Users\userID\AppData\Local\The_Software_MacKiev_Comp\FTM.exe_StrongName_seih5jkxwe5jgqf34wadynpglkq344as\22.0.1.1505\user.config
Where "userID" is your login ID, and "22.0.1.1505" is the latest version of Family Tree Maker on your computer.
Look for the following lines:

and save the file. Re-install Charting Companion. - If you are unable to launch CC, please send a copy of the following file to Progeny Technical Support:
C:\Program Files\Family Tree Maker 2019\Plugins\CCplugin.xml
Also, please indicate in which directory CC was installed.
